Random Amusing Challenge #100 - RED

Hi all.

 While visiting the blog of my up-line Nance at Canopy Crafts I noticed she's invited everyone to play along at  Glenda's Papers, Scissors & Rocks for her RED challenge to celebrate her 100th challenge. . that's a lot of challenges. The rules are simple. Your card has to contain RED... as little or as much as you want.

I saw this card a long time ago and made some notes; it was made by Joyce Wieles (?), but I'll apologize up front that I can't remember where I saw it. I know I was investigating punch art at the time.  I usually have good notes or if I'm going to CASE a card I do it right away. So Joyce, I'm so sorry I can not link your blog today, but perhaps if someone knows Joyce, you can let me know so I can give her credit for the original idea. Anyway, she made the cutest punch art card of a lady in a mirror. Here is my interpretation of her original.

Isn't she just the cutest? I had to guess what punches were used by looking at her card and writing down the punches... can you guess? Now I'll tell you right up front that Joyce's version had arms, but I couldn't figure out how she made them, but the arms were cream, with white elbow length gloves and the umbrella was hung over an arm.... but my poor lady has none.  I'm pretending she's crossing her arms in front while she peeks in mirror. OK? Well that will have to do.

Whew...... glad that's out of the way...just like umbrella; which is leaning against the wall.

The southern belle dress is stacked 'butterfly' punches! I need something to glue them to, so I started with a scallop circle cut into a pie shape. Can you see the dotted scallop on the bottom? Just like a petticoat!

Then I took some Pear Pizzazz CS and embossed it  then punched out the butterflies. I turned the butterflies sideways and started stacking them turning them in toward the center. When I got to the top I straighten the butterfly upright, and the center of that butterfly made her waist. I tied a bow in Burgundy organza ribbon from my stash to finish the dress. Then  I added some hair made from the oval scallop punch in black CS.

Next came the hat. I ran some cherry cobbler CS through the BS using the square lattice emboss folder and punched out a large oval, and a one inch circle. Then I used a 1 1/4 inch circle in black CS to make the band.
What 's a wide brimmed hat without a flower? I punched a pear pizzazz flower from the itty bitty trio. Then finished off the center with a small pearl.

I cut a large oval out of glossy photo paper scraps using the Sizzix Ovals die & BS. I smudged the glossy paper with silver shimmer mist and a dauber. It's suppose resemble glass... ok just use your imagination. The original from Joyce used a large oval and a large scallop oval for the the frame (Nesties I think) and hers was out of the tan and distressed with deep browns. Anyway.... I sort of like mine.

I glued the mirror to the DSP and Popped up the little lady up with some dimensionals.  I've turned the card at an angle so you can see her shadow. Popping her up makes it look more dimensional don't you think?

Happy Birthday Hubby

Today I'm posting a pretty goofy card I made for my hubby's birthday tomorrow.
 I used the Two Step Owl punch and just played around. I saw this pirate made of the owl on Lynn Pratt's blog in early fall, but it was so cute I wanted to make one too. So I pretty much CASED her owls on my card and here it is.

The main item used is the two step owl punch and a whole lot scraps! Some colors and stamps are retired, but I still use them for personal use. The card base is Poppy Parade Red, matted with Chocolate chip and Marina Blue. I also distress the blue mat with matching blue ink. A little touch of So Saffron to add a contrast.
 The pirates were done with several punches; the two step owl, circle, heart, plus some free hand snips for the peg leg, and eye patch and boat.  A scrap of the trim lace punch was cut to form a small sail, then added stripes of retired DSP.

They are really more silly than cute, and certainly need some practice making a hook!
The boat was run through the BS with the wood grain emboss folder even though it's hard to see here, and an extra strip of blue was cut with the curvy edge on my cutter and distressed with ink to make water waves.

The inside is just as goofy as the front trying to convey the message... Love You!

Well I guess I just needed to do something Goofy and Fun to change the mood around here because this weekend was pretty depressing. We spent many hours either in the hospital or on the phone as so many of our family or friends (friend, friend's husband, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law) are battling the Big "C"; it's just so so sad.

PUNCH Art card

Today's post is a CASE from Linda Aarhus, one of my favorite blogs to follow. She did a HUGE punch art series this summer that was fantastic, you can see her great punch art here that gave me the inspiration.

Isn't this the cutes ever? Who wouldn't want to make one.

So I did!

Here's mine.... This cute card I made for my brother to to write a note to say "THANKS"... for helping me out of a tight spot. Well not really a tight spot... but it was a big favor non the less. So it  fit for me.

I have looking and looking at the 'Totally Tools' set, but I don't have it yet with that exact sentiment... so I had to hand write it, but that's okay.

I used my circle punches and a few eyelets to adhere them to a strip of silver CS scored down the center to create the wrench. I popped it up on a piece of glossy copper CS I embossed with the square lattice emboss folder, then added the sentiment (hand written) on the Decorative Label piece.

Well it was pretty easy to do. Just a few punches and some distressing....... whaa la!

Punch Art Fun!

Hi there!

Well today I'm going to post a few cards using the punch art technique.

I was asked by  3 friends to make 3 wedding cards, 2 birthday cards in the past few days. (guess August is a big wedding month).

 Two of the requests for wedding cards wanted FUN outdoorsy cards and one more traditional. Since they were for 3 different people I repeated one design twice with a few differences. See if can you spot them? 

These are self explanatory regarding the assembly, so I will focus on the tools used to create these fun punch art cards.

The first card is the more traditional wedding card with HEARTS to represent the Bride & Groom.

This card used the "Occasional Quotes" level 3 hostess set, Heart Embosslit die, Heart punch, 1/2" circle punch, 1/8" hole punch, Gray & Very Vanilla & Black CS, Very Vanilla ribbon, Lap of Luxury & Bridesmaid DSP, and Basic Pearls.

The Bridesmaid "swirl" design CS  creates the Bride Heart. I ran it through the CB with the polka dot embossing folder, then rounded the top with a 1/2" circle punch and lined the neck with basic pearls.  I punched a heart from the Bridesmaid 'stripe' CS to make the Groom's shirt, which is tucked behind the Black CS heart for the tux. The black heart was also embossed with CB polka dot folder and I cut a V out of the front area so the shirt would show. The neck was rounded with the 1/2" circle punch. The buttons are punched with a 1/8" hole punch, and the bow tie is a basic knot from a ribbon scrap.

The inside sentiment is also from the "Occasional Quotes" level 3 hostess set.

I like this one a lot.

The next two both used the new two step Owl Punch, two step Bird punch, CB embossing  folder, Lap of Luxury DSP,  Pink & W.W. CS, and from my stash: Pink ribbon, bright pink rhinestone, white brad & a scrap of white wire ribbon to make her veil.  

this card used the scallop oval punch XL to mat the sentiment (retired).

this card used the 1 3/4" scallop circle to mat sentiment from the "Occasional Quotes" level 3 hostess set. Did you notice? I didn't forget to add the little hearts floating between the bride & groom on this card. I think these little owls make just the cutest couple.

The last punch art card is for a birthday and she wanted ladybugs. So here is what made using these punches: Designer Label large,  1 3/4" scallop circle, 1 3/8", 1 1/4", 1/2" and 1/4" circle punches, DSP (retired), and my friend can write in the age for the sentiment from the "On Your Birthday" stamp set.

The verse is a ladybug poem with a few stamped and cut small ladybugs to anchor it.

Next is a close up of the punch art lady bug... Too cute!

HOOTIE TOOTIE

Well all of you that stop by from time to time know that I love owls and HOOTIE is my blog mascot, so when I saw this card I said to myself, "Self... this is just too stinkin' cute not to post", but I can take NO credit. I totally CASED from Jan Tink and when I saw it I just couldn't stop myself. I ran to the basement unwrapped my two step owl punch and made one immediately. I was smiling the whole time and think you will too!
